Philosophy |
When there is struggle or suffering in the mind or emotions, it affects our feelings, our thoughts, our bodies, our lives and those around us. We then often act or exist in a way that causes more pain, dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Humans are creatures of habit. We get caught in a cycle of suffering that can become hard to break.
However, we have the power to adapt and change. Suffering, life challenges & hardships can be a great tool for self discovery, growth or spiritual realization. Oftentimes they are great catalysts for change. Sometimes we need help and don't know where or how to start this process. Jule specializes in blending Eastern and Western approaches to therapy. She utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approaches with Ayurvedic and Yogic tools (ex: meditation, self-inquiry, lifestyle medicine, aromatherapies, diet & herbs) that help to initiate the healing process & help you re-discover your true self. Jule is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy that accesses and processes traumatic memories or adverse life experiences in a way that alleviates emotional distress, helping you come to adaptive resolutions regarding your past. Click here for more info on EMDR. Your "true self" is free from mental, emotional and physical suffering. Your true self has a sense of purpose. feels whole, complete and content. Your true self can find joy in the present moment and lives in alignment with your higher values. A few notes on why I value mindfulness based practices (like yoga & meditation) in the counseling process: "Most of us are accustomed to looking outside of ourselves for fulfillment. We are living in a world that conditions us to believe that outer attainments can give us what we want. Yet again and again our experiences show us that nothing external can completely fulfill the deep longing within for "something more." Most of the time, however, we find ourselves striving toward that which always seems to lie just beyond our reach. We are caught up in doing rather than being, in action rather than awareness. It is hard for us to picture a state of complete calmness and repose in which thoughts and feelings cease to dance in perpetual motion. Yet it is through such a state of quietude that we can touch a level of joy and understanding impossible to achieve otherwise. This ancient spiritual science offers a direct means of stilling the natural turbulence of thoughts and restlessness of body that prevent us from knowing what we really are." -http://www.yogananda-srf.org/What_Is_Yoga,_Really_.aspx#.VfHPHSinA20 Common Issues:
